The Riot

The origin story of the 1907 Norwegian labour movement when miners stood together against management to demand better conditions.

The Riot tells a story of hardship for workers of the time, not that the struggle of workers has been resolved. The story is well structured and follows the travails of one miner, a man who initially doesn't recognise his enemies. He's unable to distinguish his employers from his friends - but comes to recognise his oppression and that of the men he works with. Dark and gritty to watch, with a strong lesson on how liberation requires direct and uncompromising action. A call to strife.
