Project Hail Mary

When an unknown organism starts to dim the Sun, a last-ditch effort is made to save humanity, sending a ship to the only other unaffected planet in the solar system to figure out why it's immune.

"Project Hail Mary" is a well-paced and intriguing end-of-the-world film. Full of math, science and engineering, but delivered in a way that most laypeople can understand, it's fascinating to watch as our leading man overcomes problem after problem. The lead actor is engaging but is very nearly upstaged by his extraterrestrial co-star. The stakes of the mission are high, and the way the backstory is interspersed throughout the plot is a great way of building tension and intrigue without irritating the viewer. Save the stars.
