Heart of the Man

Drama LGBTQIA+

Sammy Wundurra pushes his son to compete for a national title, but as Chris starts to understand his sexuality, he's more drawn to a life on the stage than in the boxing ring.

Heart of the Man punches above its weight with superior production values, creating a well-defined and moody on-screen presentation. The father and son relationship is central to the plot, with shady goings on creating colour while an emerging sexual realisation is handled with empathy. The dialogue occasionally slips towards cliché, which is understandable given the well-trodden boards of both the boxing ring and a community theatre stage. One fight at a time - the fifth rule of Fight Club.
