Evil Does Not Exist

The development of a glamping site is being pitched as a positive thing for the remote Japanese community where Takumi and his daughter lead a simple life.

Komorebi' is a Japanese word used to describe the play of sunlight through leaves. The director of "Evil Does not Exist" makes good use of that very sensation - in between the dark and the light - while filming in a pristine natural setting and occasionally pointing the camera up at the sky. The plot unfolds slowly, and each scene is significant. We start to form ideas of good and evil, forgetting that malevolence can reside in anybody whatever their eco-credentials. The real problem is in the hearts and minds of men. All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
